FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. WHAT TO PACK?
- Pillow and comforter is provided by The Tops (you may still like to bring your own)
- Sleeping Bag or Doona (doona is NOT provided)
- Sheets and pillow case OR you may bring a sleeping bag
- Bible, Notepad & Pen
- Sleeping attire
- Wet weather gear
- Shoes appropriate for the week
- Any necessary medication
- Towel for showering
- Toiletries including deodorant, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush
- Sufficient warm clothing for three days (The Tops is generally cold and windy)
- Old clothes for activities (clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty)
- Clothes in your tribe colours:
- NY: ORANGE & BLUE
- LA: PURPLE & YELLOW
2. WHAT TO LEAVE AT HOME?
- Any unnecessary valuables or money – the only thing that will be able to be purchased is food from a vending machine.
- Silly string or any other things to cause unnecessary mess
- Cigarettes, vapes, alcohol & non-prescription drugs
Horizon Youth Winter Camp is a drug and alcohol-free event. If you are found with prohibited substances, we will contact your parent/guardian immediately, and arrangements will need to be made for you to be taken home. We reserve the right to search bags.
3. TIMES AND TRANSPORT
SUTHERLAND CAMPUS ONLY
Camp Drop Off – Wednesday 4:30 PM
Winter Camp starts on Wednesday 15th July. Parent drop-off is at 4:30PM at The Tops Conference Centre – 51 Bendena Garden, Stanwell Tops. If that’s an issue, let your life group leader know as soon as possible, and we can help work something out.
Camp Pick Up – Friday 1 PM
Winter Camp pick up is on Friday 17th July at 1 pm at The Tops Conference Centre.
SYDNEY SOUTH WEST CAMPUS ONLY
Our Sydney South West Campus have chartered buses to transport students to and from camp.
Pick up and Drop Off Location: Horizon Church Sydney South West – 5 Merryvale Rd, St Andrews NSW 2566
Parent Drop Off at the start of camp – Wednesday 3:00 PM.
Parent Pick Up at the end of camp – Friday 2:30 pm.
4. WHAT ARE THE CAMP RULES?
Camp is going to be incredible! Horizon Youth Leaders supervise every activity at all times. Although you will be encouraged to give everything a go, you will not be forced to participate in any activity.
We want to ensure everyone who comes to our camp has a fun, safe and positive experience. To ensure that, we have three camp rules. They are:
- No girls in guys’ cabins or zones, no guys in girls’ cabins or zones.
- No activities without a leader.
- No fun at another person’s expense.
If you break these rules or act inappropriately in any other manner, we may contact your parent/guardian to discuss the matter. If that matter is serious, you will be sent home.
5. WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS DIETARY RESTRICTIONS OR ALLERGIES?
Breakfast, lunch, and dinners are provided for by Stanwell tops, including alternative meal options for students with dietary restrictions. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies please make sure you write that in your registration under the corresponding question. The Tops will have a designated area during meal times.
Additionally, students are allowed to bring their own snacks to camp, to have in their cabins.
6. WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR TAKES MEDICATIONS?
If your young person has a medical condition or takes medication, we kindly ask that you please fill out this Health Care Plan as soon as possible, that way we can ensure an excellent duty of care for your young person.
7. WHAT ARE SOME SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IN PLACE?
Ensuring the safety and well-being of your teenagers is our top priority. We have taken several precautions to create a secure environment for the entire duration of camp. Here are some of the key safety measures in place:
Dedicated youth leaders: Our experienced team of youth leaders will be present at all times, supervising and leading all camp activities. They have undergone Child Protection Training and all have a Working with Children Check.
Health and Medical Support: We have allocated first aid trained leaders who are a part of our leadership team who will be able to attend to any health concerns or emergencies. Our team comprises skilled and trained professionals from diverse fields such as healthcare, social work and chaplaincy.
Child Safety and Room Allocation: To ensure the utmost comfort, privacy and age-appropriate experiences for all participants, we have arranged separate designated blocks for boys and girls. The rooms will also be divided into different age group specific areas. The blocks are exclusive zones, no one from other blocks is allowed to go near another block. We are committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
